Small Business New Year’s Resolutions

Small Business New Year’s Resolutions

It’s not too late to start thinking about the New Year’s resolutions you want for your small business. Resolutions can be small or big, but the most important thing is that they help you work toward a goal of some type. Resolutions don’t have to involve some type of elaborate plan to be effective. In fact, some of the best resolutions are ones that can be implemented at any time, anywhere, no matter how great your business is running. Without further ado, here are some New Year’s resolution ideas to get you started on the right foot next year.

Make Delegation a Goal

Management often has the mindset that they need to do everything on their own. Delegation is important, and not doing it can be detrimental to your business. How are you supposed to focus on the more strategic, high-priority goals of your business if your time is being taken up with scheduling staff or running inventory? Make it a priority to delegate more of your management-type tasks to other capable members of your team. You hired them for a reason, after all!

Focus on Marketing

This might be the year you want to put a fresh face on your business. A marketing update can take your company to new heights, helping you increase your customer base or strike a new note with existing customers. Consider hiring a marketing firm to take a look at your existing plan and work up a new one. A set of professional eyes can really make a huge difference – especially if you have some extra cash on hand to foot the bill.

Learn to Lead

As a workforce, we don’t focus enough on learning – and it’s often because we don’t have enough time. If we’re always working, how can we take time off to learn how to do our jobs more effectively? Entrepreneurs especially fall into leadership roles without having much (if any) background in management at all. For small business owners, leadership training is one of those things that should never be pushed to the side. If you’re planning to delegate more this coming year, consider filling some of those newly freed-up hours with leadership courses. Whether online or in-person, leadership training is critical to the success of any small business.

Make Time for You

Mental health has been a huge focus for a lot of corporations over the past two years, especially in light of the pandemic. We’re spending too much time at our desks, in our home offices, or otherwise doing work-related tasks to really focus on what’s important: ourselves. And it’s been proven time and again that not taking time for self-care can lead to a host of issues, including burnout, stress, and depression. This coming year, make yourself a priority and urge your staff to do the same. You’ll all be better for it.
