The <a href=\"https:\/\/fame-usa.com\/\">Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education<\/a> (FAME) is one such development model designed to offer training and hands-on experience to those with an interest in a manufacturing career. So, what\u2019s FAME all about? Let\u2019s dive in\u2026\r\n\r\n<strong>What is FAME?<\/strong>\r\n\r\nOriginally started in 2010 by Toyota, FAME transitioned to the leadership of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themanufacturinginstitute.org\/workers\/fame\/\">The Manufacturing Institute<\/a> in order to utilize its infrastructure and network and better grow the program. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/fame-usa.com\/fame-program-for-manufacturers\/\">FAME website<\/a>, \u201cFAME provides a comprehensive, hands-on education that prepares individuals for a rewarding career in the industry\u2026 FAME is proactively developing a robust pipeline of qualified workers to close the skills gap.\u201d It offers \u201ceducation, training and certifications for the Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) occupational track.\u201d This nationally recognized program has chapters in over 12 states, and there are almost 400 partner companies associated with it\u2014there\u2019s even a boast-worthy 85 percent employment placement rate upon graduation.\r\n\r\n<strong>What type of candidate is FAME looking for?<\/strong>\r\n\r\nTypically, FAME applicants are students looking to take advantage of hands-on programs and trainings that can help them quickly advance in their manufacturing careers. They should be high school graduates interested in a 2-year degree that will provide them with the transferable technical skills needed for success in the manufacturing industry. After graduation, FAME students are able to easily transition into whatever area of manufacturing they are interested in\u2014this could include robotics, mechanics, electricians, etc.\r\n\r\n<strong>What are the benefits?<\/strong>\r\n\r\nWhile FAME is an excellent resource for students that want to kickstart their manufacturing careers, it\u2019s also hugely beneficial for employers. A few of the main benefits of FAME are that the program creates a solid supply of highly trained talent for employers to choose from; helps develop a level of professionalism that puts its graduates ahead of their peers; bolsters the local talent pool; and has a strong focus on <a href=\"https:\/\/lean-manufacturing-junction.com\/2021\/01\/5-ways-to-apply-lean-principles-to-work-safety\/\">safety and Lean Principles<\/a>.\r\n\r\n<strong>What is the AMT program?<\/strong>\r\n\r\nDeveloped for students preparing for a career in manufacturing, the <a href=\"https:\/\/fame-usa.com\/fame-program-for-students\/\">FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician<\/a> (AMT) Program combines classroom, lab, and on-site environments into one curriculum. This work-study program allows students to earn an <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Associate_degree\">associate degree<\/a> and get certified as an <a href=\"https:\/\/careerdiscovery.sciencebuddies.org\/science-engineering-careers\/engineering\/manufacturing-technician\" class=\"broken_link\">Advanced Manufacturing Technician<\/a> (AMT). In the program, students will participate in classes held at local community colleges for 2 days a week, 8 hours or more a day. They\u2019ll also get hands-on training by working at least 24 hours a week for a local participating employer\u2014and they\u2019ll get paid a competitive wage doing so. Graduates receive at least 60 credit hours and 1,800 hours of on-the-job training.\r\n\r\nThe persistent concern over a dwindling workforce in manufacturing is what makes programs like FAME so beneficial\u2014for both employers and recent high school graduates.
